PEARL FEVER TEA HOUSE

Creating a brand journey that simplifies and enhances the first time in-store bubble tea experience.

COMPANY CONTEXT
Pearl Fever, a Vancouver-based bubble tea shop, has been serving boba for over twenty years, with most of its locations in the Greater Vancouver area. They focus on introducing non-bubble tea drinkers to the beverage through an approachable selection of drinks.
PROBLEM AREA
The pandemic exposed significant deficiencies in Pearl Fever's inside ordering system and online infrastructure, which struggled to meet increased demand.

The in-store experience suffered due to barriers like plexiglass and masks, which hindered their usually vibrant and approachable customer service. Additionally, inconsistencies in their online visual identity highlighted the need for a cohesive visual design and brand system.
ROLE
Initially starting as a graphic designer, my role expanded to experience designer during the pandemic, where I conducted user research to enhance the store experience. I led over 40 user interviews with staff and customers, and facilitated branding workshops with the headquarters team, identifying key strengths and weaknesses to address.
FRAMING
Conduct user research to identify brand pillars and unique value propositions in order to leverage new product launches and brand presence.

HMW Re-design their in-store ordering experience in order to make up for limitations during covid that make it approachable for new bubble tea drinkers.

Social Media Management and partnership outreach.

Establish a design system for the visual brand, online platforms and social media.
MENU RE-DESIGN

Organizing the menu design based on what bubble tea drinkers actually want to drink.

It’s easier to sift through 10 drinks as opposed to 100, as long as you know what kind of drink you’re in the mood for.

It was important to reduce the information overload that was the previous menu, especially during the Covid social distancing.

By designing a menu that groups up similar types of drinks and then categorizes them based on flavour profile allowed customers to have an easier time
TABLOID MENU

A menu that explains customizations.

It was important to include a menu in front of the ordering counter with customizations incase an individual hadn't made up their mind up.
